Ether is the Ethereum network's transactional currency. All Ethereum-connected apps and services demand computer resources (and computing power is not free). Ether is a medium of exchange used to compensate network members for executing requested network activities. Ethereum was founded in 2014 by Vitalik Buterin, a Russian-Canadian developer, and Gavin Wood, an English computer engineer who contributed to subsequent cryptocurrency ventures.
